The power of irritation
Certain anime characters have a way of making us scream in frustration or even abandon the series altogether. Whether through their actions, their personalities or their behaviors, they can drive anyone crazy.
Here is our list of the ten most annoying anime characters, the ones we love to hate.
Our list
Many of the characters on this list are universally hated. Only one of them has a significant fanbase, despite still being hated. Can you find out which one it is?

Emma - The Promised Neverland
Emma is an intelligent, athletic and capable character. And, despite this and being a child, her childishness goes beyond the limits, with her being completely inflexible in her decisions and several times almost causing the death of all her companions due to her selfishness.
His obstinacy in saving everyone, without considering the risks or consequences, means that his good intentions often turn into imminent danger. Emma is living proof that sometimes excessive kindness can be just as irritating as meanness.
Gabi - Shingeki no Kyojin
I would bet a lot that no one likes Gabi. She is a character who has been completely brainwashed, and her only reason for existing is to antagonize our protagonists. Her inability to think for herself goes so deep that, even when faced with the truth, Gabi cannot set aside her beliefs.
Her blind determination and willingness to commit horrible acts in the name of her ideology are frustrating, making her one of the most hated characters in Shingeki no Kyojin.
Sakura - Naruto
I have to start by making it clear that, in Naruto: Shippuden, Sakura became a much more complex character. However, her representation in classic Naruto is completely unforgivable. Her only purpose in the story is to hurt the protagonist, whether with mean comments or being COMPLETELY obsessed with her rival, who just happens to ignore her.
This obsession with Sasuke, along with her lack of usefulness in the early stages of the anime, makes her an irritating and disappointing character for many fans.
Zenitsu - Demon Slayer
It's curious that Zenitsu is one of the most popular characters in Japan when he is so criticized by Western audiences. A loud, cowardly character, who only thinks about women and running away, is doomed to be a nuisance to the audience.
Even though his development throughout the story is good, his constant complaints and annoying screams make him a difficult presence to bear in more tense or emotional scenes. Zenitsu is a test of patience for many viewers.
Mineta - Boku no Hero Academia
Another character who is a “comic relief”, without being a relief or comic. Mineta is perverted, weak, irrelevant to the story and almost harassing. Mineta's existence is limited to annoying the female characters or making intelligent “comments” that are not funny at all. Honestly, Japanese humor is sometimes a mystery.
He is one of the most unpopular characters in Boku no Hero Academia, and his presence is often criticized for not adding anything significant to the plot.

Asta - Black Clover
Another character from the loud archetype, and despite this, Asta is one of the best on this list. His determination and energy are admirable, but his habit of shouting every line of dialogue can be extremely irritating.
Asta is a classic example of the shonen hero who, although he has a good heart and strong willpower, needs to learn to contain himself a little more to be truly appreciated.
Malty Melromarc - The Rising of the Shield Hero
Malty Melromarc, also known as Myne, is the definition of treacherous and is just no more detestable than any other character on this list. From the beginning, she manipulates, lies and schemes against the protagonist, Naofumi, all for her own selfish interests. Her manipulative nature and lack of any redeeming qualities make her one of the most hated characters in anime.
Malty is a classic example of a villain you love to hate, and his constant presence causing trouble and conflict is exasperating.
Yukiteru Amano - Mirai Nikki
Mirai Nikki was an anime that didn't age well, and its characters much less so. Yukiteru Amano, the protagonist, is often weak, indecisive and dependent on others to survive. His lack of assertiveness and his constant need to be saved by Yuno make him a frustrating character to follow.
In an anime full of action and tension, Yukiteru's lack of initiative is a big negative point.
Rachel - Tower of God
I honestly wish everyone had seen Tower of God, so I wouldn't have to talk about this rat anymore. Rachel is selfish and acts only out of self-interest. For no apparent reason, other than insecurity and envy, she betrays those who trust her most.
Her actions throughout the series make her one of the most hated characters, with many fans wishing her harm. Rachel is the embodiment of betrayal and selfishness, and her presence on the show is a constant reminder of how trust can be destroyed. I would be very surprised if anyone liked her.
Nobuyuki Sugou - Sword Art Online
Nobuyuki Sugou is, without a doubt, one of the most detestable characters in Sword Art Online. As the main antagonist of the Fairy Dance arc, he is responsible for some of the most disturbing and disgusting acts in the series. His unhealthy obsession with Asuna and his cruel, manipulative actions make him a villain who is easy to hate.
Sugou has no redeeming qualities, and his presence in the series is a constant reminder of the darker, more disturbing side of the virtual world.
Conclusion
These characters, with their irritating actions and personalities, manage to awaken strong emotions in viewers. Whether it's their flaws, their selfish attitudes, or their manipulative natures, they stand out as some of the most detestable characters in the anime world.
