Marcelo Medici will play a drag queen father in Elas que Lutem, Globo’s upcoming soap opera in its 19h slot. The actor said his character has two sons and that their relationship will be marked by conflict. The actors playing the sons have not yet been named.

Daniel Ortiz’s new soap opera will replace Por Você and is scheduled to premiere in March 2027. Medici currently appears in A Nobreza do Amor, playing both Father Viriato and the cangaceiro Carrapato. He said his new role will be very different from Viriato.

Medici said he has known the actors who will play his sons for many years but would not reveal their names.

“He’s the father of two young men, played by two actors I love and have known for many years, but I can’t say who they are yet. And he’s a drag queen! There’s that conflict with his sons”

- Marcelo Medici

Medici also spoke about his interest in drag. He watches shows in the RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise and sees curiosity about different art forms as part of an actor’s work. When creating characters, though, he said he usually draws on his own experiences rather than taking direct inspiration from any one person.

Medici has previously performed in a role that shares elements with drag. Between 2016 and 2017, he played Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the Brazilian production of the musical Rocky Horror Show, directed by Charles Möeller and Claudio Botelho. The character is not a drag queen, but wears makeup, high heels and costumes that challenge gender conventions.

No details of Medici’s look in Elas que Lutem have been released, but he joked about the work the new role might require. The soap opera is scheduled to premiere in March 2027, with no exact date announced.
