About Whirlwind Adept

Whirlwind Adept, Creature — djinn monk, designed by Steve Argyle first released in May, 2020 in the set Khans of Tarkir and was printed exactly in 2 different ways.

The Whirlwind Adept card would benefit a control or tempo deck that focuses on casting noncreature spells to trigger its Prowess ability, making it a potent threat while being protected by Hexproof. While it can be a strong addition to such a deck, there may be better options like Delver of Secrets or Monastery Swiftspear that offer more immediate impact or synergy with the deck's strategy, so the Whirlwind Adept may not see as much play in competitive settings.

Rules

09/20/14

Any spell you cast that doesn’t have the type creature will cause prowess to trigger. If a spell has multiple types, and one of those types is creature (such as an artifact creature), casting it won’t cause prowess to trigger. Playing a land also won’t cause prowess to trigger.

09/20/14

Once it triggers, prowess isn’t connected to the spell that caused it to trigger. If that spell is countered, prowess will still resolve.
