The new Harry Potter series is not expected to follow a one-season-per-year model, but HBO also does not intend to leave fans waiting two years between batches of episodes. The information was detailed by Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max content, while discussing plans for the television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books.According to Bloys, the production requires more than a twelve-month turnaround because of the project’s scale and the complexity of filming. Even so, he ruled out the two-year wait that has become common for some major recent series. HBO’s goal is to keep the gap between seasons as short as possible, without committing to a fixed schedule for now.“No. We’re doing everything we can to bring it back as quickly as possible. With the main cast made up of children and teenagers, the actors’ aging during filming is also part of HBO’s calculations as it organizes production.When the adaptation was announced, the project was described as one designed to run for roughly a decade. Bloys, however, stopped short of saying that plan will unfold exactly that way. He said each book is being treated as a major event and that, for now, the assessment is being made season by season.The plan remains to adapt all seven of J.K. Rowling’s books across multiple seasons, with each one following one volume of the saga. The first will be based on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.On the premiere, Bloys was more direct: the first season premieres on Christmas 2026 on HBO Max. The executive also confirmed that J.K. Rowling remains creatively involved in the series and said the controversies surrounding the author have not caused difficulties in the casting or production process.The main cast will feature Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
