Netflix has laid off Doug Belgrad, its vice president of film, as part of a sweeping restructuring. His departure is among roughly 1,000 job cuts, representing approximately 6% of the workforce. It is the largest round of layoffs in the company's history.Co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters told employees on Wednesday morning that most of the cuts would affect product, technology, legal and human resources. The memo did not name the employees leaving Netflix.“Decisions like these are never easy, and we do not take them lightly. Our top priority today is supporting those who are leaving Netflix.”- Ted Sarandos and Greg PetersIn the memo, the two executives explained that the process would vary by country and that managers would contact affected employees. They also said the company would provide support during the transition, including information about the decisions, and thanked departing employees for their contributions.Belgrad was hired in May 2024.He was Dan Lin's first major executive hire after Lin took over the film division from Scott Stuber. Before joining Netflix, Belgrad spent more than 25 years at Sony. His most recent role there was president of the Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, overseeing creative and business decisions as well as financial planning.Netflix's previous major round of layoffs came in 2022, when roughly 450 employees were let go following a difficult quarter. Since then, the company has made smaller cuts, including several dozen jobs on its global product team in early 2026.
