Netflix has begun testing AI Discover, a new tab in its TV app that uses artificial intelligence to help subscribers find movies and shows. For now, the feature is available only to some users.

The idea is to start with what someone feels like watching. Subscribers can enter their mood and interests, and AI Discover suggests titles based on their answers. They can also refine the recommendations to stop seeing certain shows or movies.

In a post about the feature, Netflix called AI Discover its “test kitchen.” The company wants to see how subscribers use it and hear their feedback before deciding which features to keep or improve. Some of the ideas tested there could eventually become part of the main Netflix experience.

AI Discover does not replace Netflix’s existing recommendations. According to the company, it adds another way to browse the catalog alongside personalized suggestions based on users’ positive ratings and titles added to “My List.”

Netflix says the test is designed to account for different situations: what suits a quiet evening may not be the right choice for family viewing or a few spare minutes. There is no word yet on when, or whether, the new tab will be available to all subscribers.
