Mike Flanagan has revealed that he envisions Carrie as a three-season series. The new adaptation of Stephen King’s classic has yet to premiere, but the writer, executive producer and showrunner is already working with the idea of building a story larger than the one presented in the book.“In my dream scenario, the series will have three seasons. I believe the series has the potential for an incredible three-season narrative arc. It’s a trilogy, actually,” Flanagan said.The plan is built around a central question: although the original novel has a definitive ending, the series aims to expand Carrie White’s universe and explore paths that previous adaptations did not. For Flanagan, the protagonist is part of a larger community of women with special abilities—a group Carrie never discovers exists.The production will also explore young people finding their place in the world and taking ownership of their power, along with the challenges and pitfalls of that process. The story follows Carrie, a teenager isolated by her domineering mother, as she navigates public high school, a bullying incident that shakes her community and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.Summer H. Howell will play Carrie. The cast includes Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjadin and Matthew Lillard as Principal Gayle. Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco, Katee Sackhoff, Rahul Kohli and Heather Graham are also among the announced cast members.The series will premiere on a streaming service on October 7. Flanagan will direct several episodes, while Axelle Carolyn and Kate Siegel will also direct episodes.
