The Darkness Crystal would be a powerful addition to a mono-black control deck focused on creature removal and reanimation strategies, providing cost reduction for black spells and a recurring source of life gain. However, there are arguably better options available, such as Liliana of the Veil or Liliana, the Last Hope, which offer more versatile and impactful abilities that can better control the board. While The Darkness Crystal has potential in certain scenarios, its high casting cost and situational effectiveness may limit its playability in competitive Magic: the Gathering environments.
