Skullwinder would be a great addition to a Golgari graveyard recursion deck in Magic: the Gathering, benefiting from its ability to return a card from your graveyard to your hand while also disrupting your opponent's graveyard strategy. However, a potentially better alternative could be Eternal Witness, which has a similar effect but without requiring your opponent to benefit as well. Skullwinder could still see play in certain decks that focus on graveyard interactions and want the added political aspect of forcing an opponent to return a card as well.

Skullwinder’s enters-the-battlefield ability targets only the card in your graveyard. If that card is an illegal target as the ability tries to resolve, the ability won’t resolve and none of its effects will happen. No cards will be returned to any player’s hand.
