About Pearl Lake Ancient

Pearl Lake Ancient, Creature — leviathan, designed by Richard Wright first released in Sep, 2014 in the set Khans of Tarkir.

A control deck with a focus on instants and sorceries would benefit from using Pearl Lake Ancient due to its ability to be uncounterable, its flash ability, and the ability to return to hand for protection. While it can be a strong finisher in the late game, some may argue that other finishers like Torrential Gearhulk or Aetherling might be more versatile and impactful in certain situations. However, Pearl Lake Ancient can still be a solid choice in certain control decks that can take advantage of its unique abilities.

Rules

09/20/14

A spell or ability that counters spells can still target Pearl Lake Ancient. When one resolves, Pearl Lake Ancient won’t be countered, but any additional effects of that spell or ability will still happen.

09/20/14

Prowess goes on the stack on top of the spell that caused it to trigger. It will resolve before that spell.
