Monastery Swiftspear would be beneficial in a red aggressive deck that aims to quickly overwhelm opponents. Its Haste and Prowess abilities make it a strong early-game threat that can deal significant damage when combined with a high density of low-cost noncreature spells. In comparison, cards like Goblin Guide or Goblin Guide are more popular choices due to their consistent damage output and evasiveness. However, Monastery Swiftspear can still be a valuable inclusion in certain deck archetypes depending on the strategy and synergy with other cards in the deck.

Any spell you cast that doesn’t have the type creature will cause prowess to trigger. If a spell has multiple types, and one of those types is creature (such as an artifact creature), casting it won’t cause prowess to trigger. Playing a land also won’t cause prowess to trigger.

Once it triggers, prowess isn’t connected to the spell that caused it to trigger. If that spell is countered, prowess will still resolve.
