Mistvein Borderpost, Artifact, designed by Pete Venters first released in Apr, 2009 in the set Alara Reborn and was printed exactly in 2 different ways. It see play in 1 formats: Commander.
A deck that focuses on mana efficiency and resource management, such as a control deck, would benefit from including Mistvein Borderpost. While it may not be the strongest option compared to other mana-fixing cards like the Signets, it can still be a budget-friendly alternative for decks looking to manipulate their mana base. Its ability to potentially enter the battlefield for free by returning a basic land can provide an advantage in the early game, but its drawback of entering tapped may slow down aggressive strategies. Overall, while not a staple in competitive play, Mistvein Borderpost can find a home in certain budget or casual decks looking for mana flexibility.

Casting this card by paying its alternative cost doesn’t change when you can cast it. You can cast it only at the normal time you could cast an artifact spell. It also doesn’t change the spell’s mana cost or converted mana cost. The only difference is the cost you actually pay.

To satisfy the alternative cost, you may return any basic land you control to its owner’s hand, regardless of that land’s subtype or whether it’s tapped.
