About Dark Impostor

Dark Impostor, Creature — vampire assassin, designed by Johannes Voss first released in May, 2012 in the set Avacyn Restored and was printed exactly in 3 different ways.

A deck that focuses on controlling the board and removing key threats would benefit from including Dark Impostor, as it provides a versatile removal option and can potentially gain powerful abilities from exiled creatures. However, there are better options available for similar effects, such as Vampire Hexmage or Vampire Nighthawk, which offer immediate impact and value without needing additional resources to activate their abilities. Dark Impostor could see play in a more casual or themed deck, but may struggle to compete in more competitive environments due to its higher cost and slower activation requirement.

Rules

05/01/12

Dark Impostor can target and exile a permanent that’s only a creature temporarily, like an animated land. However, because that card isn’t a creature card, Dark Impostor won’t have any of that card’s activated abilities.

05/01/12

Dark Impostor gains only activated abilities. It doesn’t gain triggered abilities or static abilities. Activated abilities contain a colon. They’re generally written “[Cost]: [Effect].” Some keywords are activated abilities; they have colons in their reminder text.

05/01/12

Once Dark Impostor leaves the battlefield, it will no longer have the activated abilities of the creature cards exiled with it. If it returns to the battlefield, it will be a new Dark Impostor with no connection to those exiled cards.
