FX has ordered Legends, a limited series that will reunite much of the main cast of Sons of Anarchy. Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates and Theo Rossi are confirmed for the project.

The new series has a meta premise: more than a decade later, the cast of Sons of Anarchy reunites at a fan convention. The line between life and art begins to blur as the brotherhood, scarred by divisions, faces a real threat more dangerous than anything seen in the original series.

Hunnam developed Legends with Jonathan Groff, known for his work on black-ish and How I Met Your Mother. The pair will serve as executive producers alongside Rob Mac, Nicholas Frenkel and Jackie Cohn. FX Productions and 20th Television will produce the series.

The story makes the cast reunion a central part of the fiction itself. Hunnam reunites with the colleagues who helped define Sons of Anarchy, the drama created by Kurt Sutter. The series premiered in 2008 and ran for seven seasons, totaling nearly 100 episodes.

Nick Grad, president of FX Entertainment, said the network was immediately drawn to the pitch presented by Hunnam. According to him, the actor's vision as a writer, performer and executive producer takes the real-life brotherhood on an adventure that serves both as a tribute to the original show and a twist on what audiences believe they know.

“When Charlie brought us this inspired idea, we immediately connected with his bold and entertaining vision.”

In addition to starring as Jax in Sons of Anarchy, Hunnam recently received his first Emmy nomination for Monster: The Ed Gein Story, Netflix's anthology series. FX has not yet announced a premiere date for Legends.
