Avengers: Endgame has returned to theaters with four new scenes that directly connect the 2019 film to Avengers: Doomsday. Renamed Avengers: Endgame Encore, the extended version adds four minutes of footage featuring characters such as Doctor Doom, Loki and Bruce Banner.The new sequences were filmed during production on Doomsday and serve as a bridge between the two Avengers films. The first appears during Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter’s final scene. After traveling back in time and retiring as Captain America, Steve receives an unexpected visit from Loki, who appears wearing the uniform of the Time Variance Authority.The scene suggests that Steve’s time travel may have created an unstable branch in the multiverse. In Loki, the character had taken on the role of sustaining the entire multiversal structure, and the new appearance revisits that thread of the story.Another sequence takes place at the TVA, with Mobius, Casey, Ouroboros and Miss Minutes. The team identifies two Earths on the verge of colliding in an incursion. Other worlds begin crashing into one another and disappearing until the production reveals the collapse of the entire multiverse. The situation may be connected to the meeting between Fox’s X-Men universe and the MCU’s main reality, as characters such as Professor Xavier, Magneto, Cyclops, Mystique, Nightcrawler and Gambit will cross over into that universe.Bruce Banner also gets a scene during the credits. Following the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, he is working on a serum to prevent further transformations into the Hulk. Doctor Doom breaks into the laboratory, and Bruce transforms to confront him. The outcome of the fight is not shown.The final scene appears at the very end of the credits and revisits the metallic sound heard at the close of the original Endgame. The sequence deepens the connection between the re-release and Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18.
