Inde Navarrette has offered a first glimpse of what Rogue might sound like in the new X-Men film. In an interview with Canadian program Etalk, the actress attempted “sugar,” the character’s signature catchphrase, in a Southern accent.

The preview came after the interviewer noted that fans wanted to hear the mutant’s voice. Navarrette admitted she has not practiced much yet and offered her take on the word. She also said she plans to work on the accent and speak with Marvel’s team to decide how the character will be portrayed. Rogue’s voice, therefore, has not yet been finalized.

In Marvel comics, the character’s name is Anna Marie, and she is from Mississippi. Among her powers is the ability to temporarily absorb other people’s abilities and memories. Her Southern accent is one of the traits associated with the mutant.

Marvel announced Navarrette’s casting during D23. Known for Obsession, she joins the new film’s cast alongside Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and Christopher Abbott as Professor X. Samara Weaving will play Emma Frost; Maya Boyd will play Storm; Asa Germann will portray Angel; and Adam Driver will play Mr. Sinister.

Navarrette said she wants to respect the work of Marvel’s screenwriters while developing her version of Anna Marie, adding her own interpretation to the character. Jake Schreier will direct the film, which is scheduled for release on May 5, 2028.
