Eleven years after its original run ended, Glee is officially back. Disney+ and Hulu have ordered a new reboot series, continuing one of television's most popular musical comedies. The news comes after the creative team finished the project's script.

The plot, however, remains a mystery. So far, the platforms have not released an official synopsis or cast list. What is known is that Ryan Murphy, who created the series with Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, has already pitched the idea to several of the original cast members.

Aired over six seasons, the show followed the members of New Directions through the ups and downs of high school. It became known for its hit covers, sharp humor and willingness to tackle controversial topics, creating a found family for those who felt out of place.

Returning to this universe, however, requires care. Over the years, the cast and crew have faced painful losses, including the deaths of Cory Monteith, Naya Rivera and Mark Salling. The absence of these performers and their characters completely changes the group's original lineup.

Chris Colfer, who played Kurt Hummel, had already said that a return without Rivera would be really difficult to pull off. The actress, who died in 2020, was one of New Directions' most beloved voices, and her absence leaves a void that the reboot will need to explain.

Despite the challenges, the announcement brings back memories of a series that gave a face and a voice to outsiders long before same-sex marriage was legalized in the United States. Glee helped an entire generation understand that teams are formed through acceptance, not conformity. With the script in hand and the creators' interest, anticipation now centers on news about who will walk the school's halls this time.
