Prime Video has released a new trailer for Blade Runner 2099, a spin-off series set 50 years after the events of Blade Runner 2049. Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer star in the series, which is scheduled to premiere on the streaming service on November 25.Yeoh plays Olwen, a replicant nearing the end of her life. Schafer plays Cora, a human fugitive posing as a replicant. The two must work together to investigate the disappearance of rogue replicants, placing them at the center of a story that keeps replicants central to the franchise.Jonathan van Tulleken, of Shōgun, was hired to direct the first two episodes. Set in the cyberpunk world based on Philip K. Dick’s classic work, the series continues the films’ timeline, moving five decades beyond Blade Runner 2049.Ridley Scott, director of the original Blade Runner, is involved in the production alongside Amazon. Discussing the project, Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios, called Scott’s film one of the most influential works of science fiction of all time and said the studio is excited to bring the series to Prime Video subscribers.The new story brings together new characters and a mystery involving missing replicants in a setting familiar to audiences. Blade Runner 2099 is expected to premiere on November 25; no year has been announced.
