Swamp Thing remains in DC Studios’ plans despite a long stretch without updates. Peter Safran confirmed that the film’s script is in development and that the project is still attached to filmmaker James Mangold. The update came at the premiere of Clayface. Asked about the production’s progress, Safran said: “We’re working on it. The script is being written right now.”- Peter SafranThe statement confirms that the film is still in development but does not suggest that filming is imminent. Safran explained that projects of this scale take time, and the schedule must also account for Mangold’s availability.Swamp Thing was announced in January 2023 as one of the first films in the new DCU’s Chapter One, titled Gods and Monsters. At the original presentation, DC said the story would explore the character’s dark origins. The project was also meant to show how productions with very different tones could coexist in the same universe. James Mangold’s continued involvement and progress on the script reinforce that Swamp Thing has not disappeared from DC’s creative slate, despite the long wait since its announcement. No information has been announced about the cast, the start of filming or a projected release date. Swamp Thing remains in development and has no release date.
