The sixth season of Slow Horses premieres in ten days, marking Jack Lowden’s return as one of the disgraced spies in the MI5’s forgotten division. The show is Apple TV’s longest-running drama series and follows characters led by the eccentric Jackson Lamb, played by Gary Oldman.

Lowden joined the cast after appearing in Dunkirk, Christopher Nolan’s war film. In the series, he plays a character who has become a fan favourite. His return comes amid heightened attention on the actor, who has been mentioned in recent weeks as one of the names in contention to take over as James Bond.

Three actors have regularly been named as possible choices for the James Bond reboot: Callum Turner, Jack O’Connell and Jack Lowden. Turner recently starred opposite Monica Barbaro in the romantic comedy One Night Only. O’Connell, meanwhile, appears in Ink, directed by Danny Boyle and recently screened at the Venice International Film Festival.

The new season continues the series based on Mick Herron’s books. The story follows agents who have lost their standing and been sent to a marginalised unit within the British intelligence service. Under Jackson Lamb’s command, the group remains connected to MI5 operations, even after being pushed away from its most important departments.

Slow Horses premiered in 2022 and received positive reviews. Four years later, it remains one of Apple TV’s flagship titles, while Jack Lowden returns to the role that raised his profile among those being considered for the future of James Bond.

The sixth season arrives ten days after the information about his return was published.
