The new Resident Evil adaptation has grossed US$ 384.4 million at the worldwide box office. The result makes it the highest-grossing film in the franchise’s history, surpassing Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, which ended its theatrical run with US$ 312.2 million.

In the United States, the film has grossed US$ 153.6 million. International markets contributed US$ 230.8 million to the total, with results from 67 territories. The production also marks the biggest box office success of director Zach Cregger’s career.

The reception also boosted its commercial performance. The horror film holds a 96% critics’ approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and received a B+ audience score from CinemaScore, the highest approval rating ever earned by a film in the franchise.

In addition to directing, Zach Cregger co-wrote the screenplay with Shay Hatten, known for Army of the Dead. The cast includes Austin Abrams, from Weapons, Zach Cherry, from Severance, Kali Reis, from True Detective: Night Country, and Paul Walter Hauser, from Richard Jewell.
