Director Fede Álvarez has confirmed that Don’t Breathe 3 is in development and already has a screenplay. The news broke during a 10th-anniversary screening of Don’t Breathe at Beyond Fest, in front of the festival audience.According to Álvarez, Jane Levy and Stephen Lang will return for the franchise’s third film. Levy played Rocky, one of the young people who break into a blind veteran’s home in the first movie, while Lang portrayed the man who turns the burglary into a fight for survival.“There is a screenplay for ‘Don’t Breathe 3.’ Jane will be back and Stephen Lang will be back,” the director said during the discussion. The announcement drew an immediate reaction from the audience, but he did not reveal what the new film will be about.Sony has not announced a release date, and plot details remain under wraps. Dylan Minnette, who also appeared in the first film, was at the event, but Álvarez did not mention whether the actor might return.Released in August 2016, Don’t Breathe follows three young thieves who break into the home of a blind veteran in Detroit. Rocky planned to use the money to escape with her younger sister from an abusive home, but the group discovers that their target is hiding secrets and possesses skills far more dangerous than they had imagined.The first film grossed US$ 157.7 million at the worldwide box office. The sequel performed less strongly, earning US$ 53.7 million worldwide. With the third screenplay completed and Levy and Lang’s returns confirmed by the director, the production is awaiting official word from Sony on its next steps.
