David Fincher cut about 60 pages from Quentin Tarantino’s original screenplay for The Adventures of Cliff Booth. In an interview with Empire, the director said the first draft ran to 230 pages—long enough for two films. After the cuts, the film’s projected runtime is approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes.

The cuts did not change what drew Fincher to the project. For him, the appeal lay less in the plot than in the characters’ encounters in 1977 Hollywood.

“I liked the idea of a story told around a campfire. It wasn’t so much about the plot as it was about how the characters crossed paths in the back alleys of Hollywood in 1977.”

- David Fincher

The film returns to Cliff Booth, a character from Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. Brad Pitt reprises his role as the stuntman, now entering a new phase of his life as a Hollywood “fixer.” Tarantino wrote the screenplay, while Fincher directs.

Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Peter Weller are also in the cast. Although the story picks up where Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood left off, this time it focuses on Cliff’s journey.

The Adventures of Cliff Booth is set for an exclusive IMAX release on November 25. It is expected to arrive on Netflix on December 23.
