Netflix to bring together the entire The Walking Dead universe

Netflix and AMC Global Media have entered into a new global streaming rights agreement for the The Walking Dead universe. Valued at US$500 million, the five-year partnership will bring the original series and its six spin-off productions together on Netflix.

The package covers approximately 371 episodes of The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, The Walking Dead: Dead City, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and Tales of The Walking Dead. The titles will launch in different territories over the course of the next year as current licensing agreements expire.

The original series has been available on Netflix since 2011, but the new deal expands its presence to markets such as the United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, and New Zealand. The goal is to turn the service into a unified destination for those who want to follow all the franchise's stories.

The agreement will also be co-exclusive, allowing AMC+ to make the original series available for the first time in 2027.

Lori Conkling, Netflix's vice president of licensing, said that audiences continue to discover the production even after nearly 15 years in the platform's catalog.

“Audiences have discovered and loved The Walking Dead on Netflix for nearly 15 years, and the series continues to attract new fans. We are excited to partner with AMC Global Media to continue expanding this access to more audiences around the world and bring the entirety of the The Walking Dead universe to Netflix.”

For Kristin Dolan, CEO of AMC Global Media, the renewal strengthens a long-standing relationship between the companies and expands the franchise's reach. The executive noted that the agreement makes all series and episodes more accessible to global fans, while also bringing the original production to AMC+.

The deal was announced by AMC alongside its quarterly earnings report. According to the company, the agreement with Netflix, in addition to distribution contracts with partners such as YouTube and Comcast, helped raise its projections.
