Imagem Filmes has announced the Brazilian theatrical release date for Hope. The new sci-fi thriller written and directed by South Korean filmmaker Na Hong-jin, director of The Wailing, will open in the country on October 8.

The story is set in the remote village of Hope Harbor, near the heavily fortified Demilitarized Zone, known as the DMZ. The community descends into chaos when suspicions arise that a tiger has appeared in the area.

Local police chief Bum-seok receives the alert and begins dealing with a situation that quickly proves to be far more than an ordinary emergency. The case develops into a deeper mystery, forcing residents to confront the unknown.

Hope brings together South Korean and international talent. Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Jung Ho-yeon, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender are among the lead cast, while Uhm Tae-goo and Lee Kyu-hyung also appear in the film.

The production marks Na Hong-jin's return to the director's chair with a project that blends science fiction, suspense and horror. It begins with the possible sighting of an animal, but the situation in Hope Harbor takes on increasingly threatening dimensions as the mystery unfolds.

The film is set to open exclusively in Brazilian theaters on October 8. Imagem Filmes has not yet released further details about the feature's distribution in Brazil.
