The biographical film Michael, directed by Antoine Fuqua, surpassed the US$1 billion mark at the global box office. So far, the film about Michael Jackson has grossed US$1.013 billion worldwide.

The performance helped Lionsgate post a sharp revenue increase in its first quarter. The company reached US$776.6 million in the period, compared to US$526 million in the same quarter of the previous year, exceeding the market's projected forecast of US$693.1 million.

Michael became the highest-grossing biographical film of all time and also Lionsgate's biggest worldwide release in history. For the film's international distribution, the studio worked with Universal.

Lionsgate's film division revenue jumped from US$267.3 million to US$587.3 million. In addition to Michael's box office revenue, the result was driven by performance in complementary businesses related to The Housemaid.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group's profit reached US$105 million, marking the studio's best first quarter ever. Overall, the net loss attributable to shareholders fell to US$28.8 million, compared to US$109 million a year earlier.

The TV production business generated US$189.3 million in revenue, down from US$288.5 million in the previous period due to the episode delivery schedule. Lionsgate projects revenue and television profit growth in fiscal year 2027, with nearly double the number of scripted series deliveries compared with the previous year.

The recent licensing of four Power series to Netflix is also expected to strengthen the TV division's results in the second half of the year.
