Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always is the newest addition to the Power Rangers franchise, an hour-long special that will be the celebration of 30 years since the birth of the first TV installment, back in 1993, with “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”. The special is set to come out on April 19th on Netflix.
Power Rangers fans across the world were already excited about this nostalgia-infused show even before the trailer came around, and now that it did, the excitement has grown to absolutely fantastical levels because of the several cameos and Easter Eggs showing familiar characters returning for the anniversary.

Could you spot them all?
Rita Repulsa, the iconic Villain
This incredible and iconic villain from the original series is back for more mischief in the special, this time in a robot version. Throughout the franchise’s history, Repulsa’s role has shifted between the “Big Bad Guy” to “Redeemed Anti-Hero” before, but it seems this robot version is 100% repulsive. She also has her traditional puffy goons alongside her.
The Mighty Morphin Rangers Team is Back Together
Another development in the story throughout the TV Show was the disbandment of the team several times, even though it came back occasionally as their powers and tech got upgraded.
For the 30th Anniversary, however, you can breathe soundly: They are back!
Yellow Ranger Trini’s Fate
The Yellow Ranger actress, Thuy Trang, sadly passed away in a car accident back in 2001, which caused her character’s departure from the show without further explanation. However, in the 30th Anniversary special, we have a shot of Repulsa killing Trini, finally giving the character closure.
The Black Power Ranger, Walter Emanuel Jones, is back
Another loose end on the original show, the Black Power Ranger left during the earlier seasons of Migthy Morphin. Though later iterations in the franchise’s universe have altered not only his fate, but also Trini’s, the TV special will feature this actor’s first return to Power Rangers since.
David Yost is back too
This departure was explained in-universe, as the Blue Power Ranger, played by David Yost, had an on and off role in the original series as a mentor, much like Zordon, the team’s previous guide. The actor was the only one to remain from pilot to the final episode, even though it was in different roles. He’s now back for the Anniversary as well.
Alpha 5
Even the voice actor for the robot who accompanied the Power Rangers in the original show, is back! Alpha 5, which is a robot series that accompanies all Rangers throughout the show, is shown in the special.
Yellow Ranger Trini’s Daughter
To further pay homage to Thuy Trang, Trini’s daughter, Minh Kwan, played by Charlie Kersh, is in the special, debuting in a role that seeks revenge for her mother.
Rita Repulsa, the Terminator
The storyline for the special follows Rita’s plan to kill Rangers before they can be recruited by Zordon, by travelling back in time.

The Second Pink Ranger, Catherine Sutherland, is here too
One more iconic appearance, the original actress for the second Pink Ranger returns. She also appears in other several installments of the franchise, and marries the Green Ranger at some point. Considering the actor who played Green Ranger Tommy, Jason David Frank, tragically passed away last year, we might see a reference to his character as well.
Another Red Ranger back
A cameo by second Red Ranger Rocky, played by Steve Cardenas, is shown in the trailer as well. The character was recruited after the departure of the first Red Ranger back in the original show.
Aisha and Adam as S.P.A.
Aisha (Karan Ashley) and Adam (Johnny Yong Bosch), who played Yellow and Black Rangers after the departure of the first ones, also join the special as part of the S.P.A, which can be an earlier version of the S.P.D. at this point in the Power Rangers timeline.
Angel Grove’s Youth Center
This iconic location from the original show, which was where the Rangers spent most of their casual, civilian lives, is also shown in the special, or better, attacked by Rita. A reference by the original Black Ranger, Zack, could point to Rita and Zordon’s no-escalation deal, which prevented her from attacking Ranger’s personal homes and lives.
Original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Zords Return
Perhaps the most memorable aspect of the Power Rangers franchise, the distinctive Dinozords from the original series are back for the special, though they were destroyed not long after the show began airing in the 1990s. As Rita is dealing with time-travel, this might be the answer for how they are back.
The Original Megazord Returns
Alongside the Dinozords, of course, the Original Megazord is also back, perhaps the single most iconic piece of Power Rangers iconography in history.
