Ariana Grande's new album tops the Billboard 200 with 295,000 equivalent units, marking the singer's best debut since 2019.

Ariana Grande debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with Petal, her seventh album to top the chart. The album posted 295,000 equivalent units in its first week, the singer’s strongest opening of the decade and her biggest since 2019.

The result surpasses the debut of Eternal Sunshine, which moved 227,000 units in 2024, as well as the opening figures for Sweetener and Positions. Of Ariana Grande’s eight studio albums, only Thank U, Next had a bigger debut, with 360,000 units in 2019.

Traditional sales accounted for 168,000 units of Petal, Ariana Grande’s second-best career result in that category. Of that total, 96,000 copies were sold on vinyl. The album also amassed 128.83 million on-demand streams, equivalent to 126,000 streaming units.

The songs and videos from Petal generated plenty of discussion before and after Ariana Grande announced that she plans to take a sabbatical from public life. The attention, including the controversies surrounding the project, appears to have helped broaden the album’s reach.

On the rest of the Billboard 200, Morgan Wallen fell to No. 2 with I’m the Problem, which moved 75,000 units. Olivia Rodrigo landed at No. 3 with You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, with 74,000. Ella Langley, Noah Kahan, Drake, Olivia Dean and Michael Jackson rounded out the top 10, while Wallen and Kahan each kept two albums on the chart.

Petal had the sixth-biggest debut of 2026 so far. BTS leads the ranking with Arirang and 641,000 units, followed by Rodrigo, Drake, Harry Styles and Kahan.

Ariana Grande also has a strong chance of remaining at No. 1 on the next chart update, as the latest releases from Role Model and Ravyn Lenae are not expected to challenge her lead. The main competition could come from Phoebe Bridgers’ new album, due the following week.
