Early reactions to Clayface have begun circulating, with the live-action film being described as dark, violent and deeply rooted in horror. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters nationwide on October 22.

Reactions have highlighted its use of blood, practical effects and brutal scenes, as well as its decision to fully embrace the genre. Tom Rhys Harries has also drawn praise for his performance as the title character, portrayed as a villain who does not easily fit the antihero mold.

Steven Weintraub said Clayface works as an addition to the DCU without requiring prior knowledge of the universe. He also mentioned the film's high age rating and reported that audiences were shocked at several points during the screening.

James Gunn's production was also described by Peter Gray as dark and violent, while still leaving room for the humor characteristic of comic-book stories. In his view, the character's theatricality does not lessen the film's brutality, while Tom Rhys Harries combines youthful charm with a silent menace.

Another reaction described Clayface as a macabre horror film featuring grotesque imagery and pronounced shifts in tone. The story reportedly moves from a depressive atmosphere to eccentric, colorful and absurd moments, showcasing a different side of the DCU.

Early reactions also categorized the film as a body-horror and monster movie that does not shy away from its violence. Travis said the first screening sparked excitement in the theater and called the result a bloody victory for the DC universe.

Reactions also praised the film's inventiveness, unexpected humor and the natural way Clayface fits into the DCU. The movie arrives in theaters nationwide on October 22.
