Ben Affleck has once again criticized Warner Bros. for replacing Zack Snyder as director of Justice League. In an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor said the filmmaker’s daughter’s death was used as an excuse to remove him from the production. Affleck called the way the situation was handled one of the worst things he had ever witnessed.Snyder stepped down from the film after his daughter died by suicide. At the time, the studio was also pushing for Justice League to have more humor and move closer to Marvel’s films. Joss Whedon took over as director, and the reshoots that followed were described by Affleck as the lowest point of his career. The actor qualified his comments about the atmosphere behind the scenes, noting that some of what he knows came from accounts by other cast members rather than situations he witnessed personally. Affleck also acknowledged that he was struggling with alcohol and going through a divorce, factors that made that period even more difficult for him. According to the actor, however, this did not affect his performance. The experience influenced his decision to abandon the idea of directing a superhero film. Affleck was once attached to direct and star in The Batman, but decided that the project’s stress could worsen his problems with alcohol. Speaking about the later release of Snyder’s version of Justice League, he said he was happy for the director.Affleck played Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Justice League and The Flash. Today, his name appears in fan speculation about a possible replacement for Matt Reeves as director of The Batman Part II, which has been paused for unspecified personal reasons involving the filmmaker. There is no indication that DC Studios plans to make the change.
