Nintendo has officially announced Metroid Ravenous, the next 2D entry in the series and a sequel to 2021’s Metroid Dread. Its first trailer shows Samus Aran trying to get home while facing a host of new enemies.The trailer also reveals a major new gameplay feature: Samus appears able to absorb other creatures’ powers and life force. It ends with her saying, “eat or be eaten.”Metroid Ravenous will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027. It will be Nintendo’s first major release of the year, ahead of other titles the company has mentioned, including Xenoblade Genesis and Kirby and the World Beyond.Nintendo also confirmed two new amiibo for the game. One figure is based on Samus’s appearance in Ravenous; the other is inspired by the Chozo statues, a recurring feature of the Metroid series. Both figures will be released around the game’s launch.Metroid Ravenous will also have a special edition featuring an exclusive amiibo figure of Samus wearing the “Metroid Suit.” The figure will not be sold separately. The edition will also include a physical copy of the game and a steelbook case.The announcement follows an early-summer leak that pointed to a project called Metroid Ravenous and a possible release that same year. Its predecessor, Metroid Dread, sold more copies than any other game in the series. Nintendo has not yet shared further details about the special edition or the new features shown in the trailer.
