Fans of the Pokémon franchise can rejoice!
After the outstanding success of the first movie, Detective Pikachu, in 2019, many fans and spectators alike wondered if the franchise was finally on its way to cinema stardom. The movie did fairly well for its initial budget of $150 million, profiting $433.2 million at the box office. Ever since then, rumors of a sequence sprouted every year around Pokémon Day time, to see if a date could be set on calendars for the premiere of Detective Pikachu 2.

Unfortunately, as disaster struck with the COVID-19 Pandemic, the sequel's production remained under wraps for close to 3 years before any other news break out, in March 2021, when the main actor who starred in the movie, Justice Smith, sadly told an interviewer that he'd "love to participate in a sequel, but I don't think that's going to happen."
It is now two years later, and there are reports of negotiations for a new director, namely for Jonathan Krisel to come into scene, the co-creator of the famous comedy show, Portlandia. For the screenplay, there are even further rumors of a new writer, Chris Galleta, who wrote The Kings of Summer. There are even sources that Ryan Reynolds, who voiced Pikachu in the first movie, "will have some part to play in the upcoming sequel". All this means the sequel is moving on, and is definitely not buried!
And there is even some news of a sequel to the game series, Detective Pikachu. The game, which was released back in 2016 after much speculation and hype, was what originated the movie.
A job listing that was answered by someone who put on their résumé that they were "working on the upcoming Detective Pikachu game" is the greatest clue for fans of the franchise who are eager to see a cute Pikachu solving crimes in digital form.
As the news regarding the sequel to the movie broke out, the rumors are that soon afterward a sequel to the game will be released too. But, it's going to take a bit more time until further details are released for both titles. What can be said is: there is hope!
