Zanikev Locust, Creature — insect, designed by Cliff Childs first released in May, 2020 in the set Return to Ravnica.
This Zanikev Locust card would benefit a deck that focuses on graveyard recursion and +1/+1 counter synergies, particularly in a black-based deck with access to plenty of mana. While Zanikev Locust offers potential value with its Scavenge ability, there are stronger options available in Magic: the Gathering for similar effects, such as Varolz, the Scar-Striped, which offers a more efficient cost for its ability. Whether Zanikev Locust should see play ultimately depends on the specific strategy and synergies of the deck it is being considered for.

Exiling the creature card with scavenge is part of the cost of activating the scavenge ability. Once the ability is activated and the cost is paid, it’s too late to stop the ability from being activated by trying to remove the creature card from the graveyard.
