About Seekers' Squire

Seekers' Squire, Creature — human scout, designed by Anthony Palumbo first released in May, 2020 in the set Ixalan and was printed exactly in 2 different ways.

This card would be beneficial in a Golgari midrange or graveyard-focused deck in Magic: the Gathering, as it provides card advantage and can potentially grow in power with the +1/+1 counters. While Seekers' Squire is a decent card for its cost, a stronger alternative could be Glowspore Shaman, which also explores but has the added benefit of putting the card directly into the graveyard, enabling graveyard synergies more effectively. However, Seekers' Squire could still see play in decks looking for early-game board presence and card selection.

Rules

01/19/18

If a resolving spell or ability instructs a specific creature to explore but that creature has left the battlefield, the creature still explores. If you reveal a nonland card this way, you won’t put a +1/+1 counter on anything, but you may put the revealed card into your graveyard. Effects that trigger “whenever a creature you control explores” trigger if appropriate.

01/19/18

Once an ability that causes a creature to explore begins to resolve, no player may take any other actions until it’s done. Notably, opponents can’t try to remove the exploring creature after you reveal a nonland card but before it receives a counter.
