However, in a competitive environment, Red Elemental Blast is generally considered a more efficient option due to its lower mana cost and broader range of targets, making it a more popular choice for sideboard tech against blue-heavy decks. Pyroblast could still see play as a budget alternative or in specific metagames where its flexibility is particularly valuable.

The decision to counter a spell or destroy a permanent is a decision made on announcement before the target is selected. If the spell is redirected, this mode can’t be changed, so only targets of the selected type are valid.
