About Phantasmal Abomination

Phantasmal Abomination, Creature — illusion, designed by Goran Josic first released in Apr, 2010 in the set Rise of the Eldrazi.

Phantasmal Abomination is best suited for control or tempo decks that can utilize its defensive capabilities while protecting it from being targeted, as it can serve as a deterrent against aggressive strategies. However, there are arguably better options for similar roles, such as Wall of Omens, which provides card draw alongside its defensive capabilities without the drawback of sacrificing itself. While Phantasmal Abomination can see play in specific builds that can effectively shield it from removal, its vulnerability to targeted spells makes it less reliable compared to other defensive creatures that offer additional value.

Rules

06/15/10

If Phantasmal Abomination becomes the target of a spell or ability, Phantasmal Abomination’s ability triggers and goes on the stack on top of that spell or ability. Phantasmal Abomination’s ability will resolve (causing it to be sacrificed) first. Unless the spell or ability has another target, it will then be countered when it tries to resolve for having no legal targets.
