About Animate Spell Playtest

Animate Spell Playtest, Enchantment — aura, designed by Alli Steele first released in Nov, 2019 in the set Mystery Booster Playtest Cards 2019 and was printed exactly in 2 different ways.

A spell recursion-focused deck, particularly in a blue control shell, would benefit from Animate Spell Playtest by enabling instant or sorcery spells to become creature threats after resolution, providing an unexpected advantage and potential board presence. While Animate Spell offers unique utility, cards like Archaeomancer or Torrential Gearhulk might serve as better alternatives due to greater flexibility or value they offer in a wider range of situations, suggesting that Animate Spell Playtest may be too niche to see consistent play in competitive Magic: the Gathering decks.

Rules

11/12/19

Animate Spell loses “enchant instant or sorcery spell on the stack” and gains “enchant permanent put onto the battlefield with Animate Spell” before becoming attached to that creature. It doesn’t say that on the card, but we’ll figure it out later.

11/12/19

If the creature leaves the battlefield before or at the same time as Animate Spell, it can’t be cast.
