Xand Avião

Xand Avião is the stage name of José Alexandre da Silva, a Brazilian singer who became one of the defining voices of forró eletrônico. He rose to national prominence as the lead vocalist of Aviões do Forró, a band formed in Fortaleza, Ceará, in 2002. The group paired traditional northeastern forró elements with amplified arrangements, electronic production, and highly choreographed live shows, helping carry the genre from regional circuits into Brazil’s mainstream music market.

For many years, Xand shared Aviões do Forró’s front line with singer Solange Almeida. Their partnership produced a long sequence of popular recordings and concerts, including songs such as “Chupa Que É de Uva,” “Fiquei Sabendo,” “Correndo Atrás de Mim,” and “Se Não Valorizar.” Aviões do Forró also became known for large-scale performances during São João celebrations, the northeastern festival season that is central to forró culture. The band’s visibility extended beyond the Northeast through television appearances, national tours, and recordings that reached commercial radio and digital platforms.

Solange Almeida left Aviões do Forró in 2017 to pursue a solo career. Xand continued with the band for a period before beginning a new phase under the name Xand Avião. This transition kept his connection to forró while presenting him as an individual artist rather than only as a member of a group. His solo repertoire includes “Bebi Liguei,” “Casal Raiz,” “Nota Dez,” and “Inquilina,” songs that combine romantic themes, colloquial lyrics, and the dance-oriented pulse associated with contemporary forró.

Xand has also collaborated with artists from outside the traditional forró scene, reflecting the genre’s increasing interaction with sertanejo, funk, and Brazilian pop. His releases and audiovisual projects have emphasized large concert settings and the communal atmosphere of northeastern parties. The project “Viva La Vida,” released in 2020, belongs to this stage of his career and includes performances designed for a broad national audience.

Rather than abandoning his regional identity, Xand Avião has used modern production and crossover collaborations to expand it. His career traces an important path in Brazilian popular music: a singer from the northeastern forró circuit becoming a nationally recognized performer while retaining the rhythms, vocabulary, and festive traditions that established his reputation. Through Aviões do Forró and his subsequent solo work, he remains closely associated with the commercial expansion of forró eletrônico in the twenty-first century.
