Paranormal Activity 8 will have a direct connection to the franchise’s original film. During New York Comic Con, director Ian Tuason confirmed that the new installment will be set in the same house where Katie and Micah, the protagonists of the 2007 film, lived.

The choice suggests that the production will continue the mythology established at the beginning of the saga rather than create a new storyline. It also sets the project apart from Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, the 2021 reboot described as a failure in the source text.

Paranormal Activity 8 is scheduled to premiere on May 21, 2027. The announced cast includes Maya Da Costa, of Girls Like Girls, Chase Yi, of Mythic Quest, and Sonia Mena, of Tell Me Lies.

In a recent interview, Tuason said Jason Blum spoke with him about different franchises and that his interest in Paranormal Activity led to an impromptu meeting in Los Angeles. The director presented an idea he had developed the previous day and said he felt the saga could not continue in any other way.

Tuason also plans to bring back the use of cameras as a central element of the narrative. In his view, advances in camera technology have become a significant part of the franchise’s films, and the device will once again play a prominent role in the eighth installment.

Oren Peli, the creator of Paranormal Activity, will produce through Solana Films alongside Jason Blum and James Wan. The project is being treated as a priority by Paramount and the Blumhouse–Atomic Monster partnership.

The franchise began with the 2007 film, shot in the found-footage style and made on a budget of US$ 15,000. The film was instrumental in launching Blumhouse and became one of the most profitable films of all time. The series has seven films in total, including Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin.
