Hayden Panettiere has died at 36. The actress’s death was announced to the press by her family last Sunday (16). The circumstances of her death have not been disclosed.

Alan “Skip” Panettiere, the actress’s father, issued a statement to ABC News. In it, he described his daughter as “an incredible light and a force of nature,” highlighting the love and joy Hayden brought to those close to her and to the television audiences who followed her career.

Police will open an investigation to determine what happened. Reports indicate that the actress was found dead at home by a friend, who called emergency services after finding an unconscious woman in cardiac arrest. Official details about her death have not yet been released.

Hayden Panettiere began her career at the age of six and spent three decades working in film and television. Her best-known roles include Claire Bennet in Heroes, as well as appearances in the Scream franchise and the series Nashville.

In early 2026, the actress released her memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning, published in Portuguese as Esta Sou Eu: Um Acerto de Contas. In the book, Hayden described the challenges of growing up as a child actress and discussed her experiences with drug addiction, abuse—including an incident involving a major Hollywood actor—and recovery.

Hayden is survived by her 11-year-old daughter, Kaya Evdokia Klitschko, who was born during her relationship with Ukrainian former boxer Wladimir Klitschko.
