About Harnessed Lightning

Harnessed Lightning, Instant, designed by Chris Rallis first released in May, 2020 in the set Kaladesh and was printed exactly in 2 different ways.

This card would be beneficial in a red aggressive deck that aims to quickly deal damage to creatures and control the board. While Harnessed Lightning offers flexibility with its energy mechanic, more efficient removal spells like Lightning Bolt or Shock may be better options in terms of mana cost and immediate impact. However, in a deck that can consistently generate and use energy counters, Harnessed Lightning could still see play as a versatile removal spell with potential for scalability.

Rules

02/09/17

is the energy symbol. It represents one energy counter.

02/09/17

Energy counters aren’t mana. They don’t go away as steps, phases, and turns end, and effects that add mana “of any type” to your mana pool can’t give you energy counters.

02/09/17

Keep careful track of how many energy counters each player has. You may do so by keeping a running count on paper, by using a die, or by any other clear and mutually agreeable method.

09/20/16

You choose the target creature as you cast Harnessed Lightning. You don’t choose how much to pay until Harnessed Lightning is resolving. No player may take actions between the time you choose how much to pay and the time the creature takes damage equal to the paid this way.
