Dreg Mangler, Creature — plant zombie, designed by Peter Mohrbacher first released in Sep, 2012 in the set Duel Decks: Izzet vs. Golgari and was printed exactly in 5 different ways.
A Golgari aggro or midrange deck would benefit from using Dreg Mangler due to its efficient cost, haste ability, and scavenge ability that can provide additional value in the late game. While there may be stronger cards in certain situations, such as Lotleth Troll for graveyard synergy or Varolz, the Scar-Striped for a more aggressive strategy, Dreg Mangler can still be a solid inclusion in the right deck as a versatile threat that can apply pressure early and provide value later on.

Exiling the creature card with scavenge is part of the cost of activating the scavenge ability. Once the ability is activated and the cost is paid, it’s too late to stop the ability from being activated by trying to remove the creature card from the graveyard.
