Its ability to gain vigilance can be useful for both attacking and blocking while still being able to hold up mana for other spells. However, in a competitive environment, there are likely better options available such as Baneslayer Angel or Lyra Dawnbringer which offer more impactful abilities and stats for a similar cost, making Bastion Mastodon less likely to see play in top-tier decks.
