Alchemist's Gambit would benefit a red-blue control deck looking to gain an advantage by taking an extra turn and potentially finishing off the opponent with damage that can't be prevented. While the downside of losing the game at the end of the extra turn can be mitigated by clever play, there are better extra turn cards like Time Warp or Nexus of Fate that don't come with such a significant drawback, making Alchemist's Gambit less likely to see play in competitive Magic: The Gathering decks.
