Chancellor of the Tangle, Creature — phyrexian beast, designed by Steve Prescott first released in May, 2011 in the set New Phyrexia.
A deck that focuses on ramping up mana quickly and efficiently, such as a green ramp deck, would benefit from using Chancellor of the Tangle due to its ability to provide additional mana at the beginning of the game. However, there are better cards for ramp strategies like Llanowar Elves or Birds of Paradise, which provide consistent mana acceleration throughout the game. Chancellor of the Tangle may not see play in competitive decks due to its high mana cost and situational benefit.

A player’s “opening hand” is the hand of cards the player has after all players have taken mulligans. If players have any cards in hand that allow actions to be taken with them from a player’s opening hand, the starting player takes all such actions first in any order, followed by each other player in turn order. Then the first turn begins.
