The fourth season of The Gilded Age drew the biggest premiere audience in the series’ history. According to HBO, the first episode, which aired on November 1, reached nearly 4 million viewers in the United States across platforms during its first three days of availability.

That is 25% more than the third-season premiere, which drew 3.2 million viewers over the same period. It is a strong start for the new season, though the premiere figures do not yet show how viewership will hold up. For comparison, HBO says the third season averaged 8.8 million viewers per episode in the United States.

In the story, Bertha Russell’s shake-up of society has consequences for her family. Agnes van Rhijn sees a chance to regain her standing, while Marian searches for a new path. Peggy, meanwhile, tries to win over her future husband’s family. Those storylines carry forward the characters’ conflicts after the events of the previous season.

Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Morgan Spector, Louisa Jacobson and Denée Benton are among the fourth season’s cast. Created by Julian Fellowes, who also serves as a writer and executive producer, The Gilded Age is an HBO and Universal Television co-production.

New episodes air Sunday nights at 9 p.m. on both the U.S. East and West Coasts on HBO and HBO Max. The season runs through its finale, scheduled for December 20.
