Three Pokémon promo cards from the Southern Islands collection sold for a combined US$ 972,000 at a Fanatics Collect auction. Mew fetched the highest price at US$ 660,000, followed by Togepi at US$ 192,000 and Slowking at US$ 120,000. All three received a PSA grade of 10, reserved for cards in Gem Mint condition.

Togepi and Slowking set new individual sales records, beating marks set just a week earlier by US$ 24,000 and US$ 12,000, respectively. Mew went the other way: despite topping the auction, it fell short of the US$ 840,000 paid for another PSA 10 copy in Fanatics Collect’s previous sale. The latest Mew sale drew 33 bids; Togepi attracted 46, the most of the three cards.

First released in Japan in 1999, Southern Islands reached English-speaking collectors in 2001. The collection features 18 cards with tropical artwork arranged into six panoramas, each made up of three connecting images. In the English-language release, which arrived in July 2001, the cards came together in a decorated binder with six postcards and three packs of cards.

Keiko Fukuyama illustrated both Mew and Togepi. Mew is part of the Sky panorama alongside Pidgeot and Onix; Togepi appears in Riverside with Ivysaur and Raticate. Their condition helps explain the prices: according to PSA, only 20 copies of Mew and 18 of Togepi have received a Gem Mint grade. Togepi’s rise is especially striking in PSA’s sales records: a copy with the same grade sold for US$ 9,300 in June 2025.
