Disney has set aside plans to release Frozen IV immediately after Frozen 3. The third film is expected to tell a complete story of its own, even if some questions about Anna and Elsa remain for a sequel. In an interview, Jared Bush, chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, said he wants audiences to leave the theater feeling they have seen a complete story. That does not mean the studio has run out of ideas for the sisters: Frozen IV remains in development. The shift is that Frozen 3 will not need another film to bring its story to a close. The possibility of telling the story across two films emerged in 2023. At the time, Jennifer Lee, who is directing Frozen 3 alongside Trent Correy, said the team had enough material for both. According to Bush, the writers have a sense of where they want to take Anna and Elsa. But deciding now what happens in the fourth film could leave them less freedom to change the ending of the third if a better idea comes along.Bush also pointed to the songs as a factor. Because the characters sing about what matters most in their lives, a new adventure needs to find something Anna and Elsa have not already expressed in earlier stories. That is one reason to give the team time before settling on the sequel’s direction. Some details of Frozen 3 have already been shown to the public. At a D23 presentation, Josh Gad, the original voice of Olaf, sang Ooooh, Samantha, a song dedicated to the snowman’s first crush. Attendees also saw Anna and Kristoff’s wedding and a new villain whose powers can rival Elsa’s.Frozen 3 opens in theaters on November 25, 2027. Frozen IV remains in development, with no release date announced. With information from Legião dos Heróis.
