About Stormsurge Kraken

Stormsurge Kraken, Creature — kraken, designed by Svetlin Velinov first released in Nov, 2014 in the set Commander 2014 and was printed exactly in 3 different ways.

A deck that focuses on a commander-centric strategy in Magic: the Gathering, such as a Commander deck, would benefit from including Stormsurge Kraken. Its ability to get stronger and provide card advantage when your commander is on the battlefield makes it a valuable addition to decks that rely on their commander's presence. While there may be other powerful kraken creatures in the game, Stormsurge Kraken's unique combination of hexproof, combat ability, and card draw potential makes it a strong contender for inclusion in commander-focused decks. Overall, if the deck's strategy aligns with utilizing the lieutenant mechanic and benefiting from card advantage, Stormsurge Kraken should definitely see play.

Rules

11/07/14

If a triggered ability granted by a lieutenant ability triggers, and in response to that trigger you lose control of your commander (causing the lieutenant to lose that ability), that triggered ability will still resolve.

11/07/14

If you gain control of a creature with a lieutenant ability owned by another player, that ability will check to see if you control your commander and will apply if you do. It won’t check whether its owner controls their commander.

11/07/14

Lieutenant abilities apply only if your commander is on the battlefield and under your control.
