Zlatan Ibrahimović, born on 3 October 1981 in Malmö, Sweden, built one of football's most unusual and decorated careers through his technical flair, physical power, and self-confidence. Raised in the Rosengård district by a Bosnian Muslim father, Šefik, and a Croatian Catholic mother, Jurka, he began playing at local club FBK Balkan before joining Malmö FF. His breakthrough at Malmö led Ajax to sign him in 2001, and he won two Eredivisie titles there. A famously inventive solo goal against NAC Breda in 2004, in which he dribbled past several defenders, became one of the defining early images of his career. After moving to Juventus in 2004, Ibrahimović joined Inter Milan in 2006 following Juventus's relegation in the Calciopoli scandal. At Inter, coached by Roberto Mancini and later José Mourinho, he won three consecutive Serie A titles from 2006-07 to 2008-09. He then moved to Barcelona in 2009 in a deal involving Samuel Eto'o, but his relationship with coach Pep Guardiola deteriorated despite winning La Liga in 2009-10. Ibrahimović returned to Italy with AC Milan, initially on loan, and helped the club win Serie A in 2010-11. His subsequent spell at Paris Saint-Germain transformed both his career statistics and the club's domestic dominance. Between 2012 and 2016, he scored 156 goals in 180 competitive matches for PSG and won four consecutive Ligue 1 titles. He became the club's leading scorer before Edinson Cavani later surpassed him. In 2013, his acrobatic bicycle kick for Sweden against England won the FIFA Puskás Award; the strike was hit from roughly 30 metres after goalkeeper Joe Hart had headed the ball clear. At Manchester United, Ibrahimović scored the winning goal in the 2017 EFL Cup final against Southampton and helped win the UEFA Europa League that season, although a serious knee injury kept him out of the final. He later joined LA Galaxy, scoring 53 goals in 58 Major League Soccer matches, including two goals on his debut against Los Angeles FC in 2018. He returned to AC Milan in 2020 and contributed to the 2021-22 Serie A title, Milan's first league championship in eleven years. Ibrahimović retired in June 2023 after a career spanning clubs in Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, France, England, and the United States. For Sweden, he scored 62 goals in 122 appearances, making him the nation's all-time leading men's international scorer.
